What is Salesforce Edition?

Salesforce provides set of features to be purchased based up on the requirement of the client. You can imagine Salesforce editions will be similar to the mobile recharge plan. You can choose different plans like talktime alone, mobile data alone and combination talktime + mobile data. Based up on the your requirement you will be choosing your mobile recharge plan.

In Salesforce, editions will be selected to utilise the services based up on client requirement offered by Salesforce. Salesforce provides 4 types of editions to its client and special edition to the Salesforce partners.

4 types of editions to clients:

  • Essentials - for small business, 25 USD per user, per month
  • Enterprise - for SME's, 75 USD per user, per month
  • Professional - Large business lesser than 1000 users, 150 USD per user, per month
  • Unlimited - Large business more than 1000 users, 300 USD per user, per month
Special edition for partners:
  • Developer edition - Free of cost. Used by Salesforce partners to develop Salesforce applications and to release that application in the AppExhange(like android playstore).
Salesforce Partners are one who can individual salesforce developer or a software company which develops Salesforce apps to release in AppExchange.

License:
Each and every Salesforce user(like Sales rep, marketing executives, CEO) must posses Salesforce license. Each Salesforce license has its own set of permissions to access Salesforce resource. 
Few license names listed out below:
Salesforce - Full access to standard CRM and force.com functionality 
Salesforce platform - Access to custom apps but not to CRM functionality
Knowledge only - Acces to only Salesforce knowledge app
Customer community/ Customer community login - License for customers to access Salesforce communities

Difference between Edition and License?
  • Edition - Permission given by Salaesforce to its client
  • License - Permission given by client to its users(client's company staffs like sales reps, marketing executives, etc.,)
